Cool and Calm: A Black Friday Prayer

Officially the “holiday season” (i.e. the period of time from Thanksgiving to Christmas) has begun.  This time causes a great deal of stress for many people. Lord, allow your servant to remain cool and calm and let your servant be a source of encouragement and peace to others. Amen

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians  4:7

A Christmas Day Prayer

A Christmas Prayer

Loving Father, Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children, and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake. Amen.

Before We Open Gifts...

Father before we open gifts this Christmas, please remind us of the gift of your son and let us be thankful.

Father before we greet our family and friends and share in food and fellowship, please remind us of the Bread of Life and the sweet fellowship we have with you because of Jesus.

Father when the day is done let us rejoice in the assurance that when life on earth is finished we have a home with you because Jesus became flesh and died in our place. Amen.

Christmas Kept is Liable to Mold

Lord allow us to share the joy of the true meaning of Christmas. Amen.

Linda Felver prayed:
Christmas kept is liable to mold.
Let me give Christmas away, unwrapped, by exuberant armfuls.
Let me share, dance, live Christmas unpretentiously, merrily, responsibly with overflowing hands, tireless steps and sparkling eyes.
Christmas given away will stay fresh—even until it comes again."
(Source: Let Me Not Keep Christmas, A Book of Christmas, Nashville: Upper Rooms, 1988, p. 48)
Pat and I along with our family wish all a very Merry Christmas.

Nativity Prayer of St. Augustine

Let the just rejoice,
for their justifier is born.
Let the sick and infirm rejoice,
For their saviour is born.
Let the captives rejoice,
For their Redeemer is born.
Let slaves rejoice,
for their Master is born.
Let free men rejoice,
For their Liberator is born.
Let All Christians rejoice,
For Jesus Christ is born.

An Out Of This World Christmas Payer

Christmas Eve Prayer - by Frank Borman (Apollo 8 space mission, 1968)
Give us, O God, the vision which can see Your love in the world in spite of human failure.
Give us the faith to trust Your goodness in spite of our ignorance and weakness.
Give us the knowledge that we may continue to pray with understanding hearts.
And show us what each one of us can do to set forward the coming of the day of universal peace.

A Christmas Prayer

Nativity Prayer of St. Bernard of Clairvaux

Let Your goodness Lord appear to us, that we
made in your image, conform ourselves to it.
In our own strength
we cannot imitate Your majesty, power, and wonder
nor is it fitting for us to try.
But Your mercy reaches from the heavens
through the clouds to the earth below.
You have come to us as a small child,
but you have brought us the greatest of all gifts,
the gift of eternal love
Caress us with Your tiny hands,
embrace us with Your tiny arms
and pierce our hearts with Your soft, sweet cries.

St. Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1153)
